People take cabs in and around Las Vegas for many reasons. Maybe they don’t feel that they know the area very well and they want to trust in someone who does. Perhaps they’ve had a little too much to drink and want to safely return home. They may even call a taxi if they want to devote their entire attention to their cellphone, PDA, or laptop computer during a trip (like to the airport, for instance).
The common theme is that taxi passengers realize that the chances of an accident will increase if they get behind the wheel, so they try to reduce those odds by calling a taxi. And if the cab they are riding in is involved in an accident anyway…well, that’s where cruel irony comes in.
In some ways, you should treat a taxi accident like you would any other car wreck. After seeking medical attention, you should make an attempt to:
- Get witness statements
- Take pictures of the accident site
- Obtain a police report about the incident
But when a taxi is involved, there is some additional information which you must obtain. This includes:
- The full name of the taxi driver
- The cellphone or personal phone number of the cabdriver (if possible)
- The name and telephone number of the cab company
- The registration number of the cab
- The license plate of the cab
- The cabdriver’s license or ID number issued by the state or city
If you have been hurt in a taxi accident, you should consult a qualified taxi accident attorney as soon as possible to see about getting compensation for your injuries.
