When you hear about auto accidents on the Las Vegas Strip, you may often assume that they are one of two types: a fender bender in heavy vehicle traffic, or an auto-pedestrian accident in heavy foot traffic. But there are times of the day when the congestion on the Strip has cleared out enough for a high-speed crash to occur.

Such was the case this morning just before 7:30am on Las Vegas Boulevard near the Mandalay Bay resort on the southern part of the Strip. According to Metro Police, a car traveling southbound on the Strip ran a red light at Hacienda Boulevard and clipped a Ford Ranger pickup truck which was traveling west. The car then bounced off of the pickup, struck a sport utility vehicle, and rolled onto its side. The driver of the SUV had to be taken to University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

It’s difficult to understand why anyone would choose to run a red light on a busy street. Maybe the car’s driver was late for work, or just wasn’t paying attention. Or maybe the driver was intoxicated. In any event, the person driving the car will almost certainly be held responsible for the injuries to the SUV driver.

This means that the victim may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver of the car which ran the red light. Such a lawsuit could help the SUV driver get reimbursed for hospital expenses, medications, and any physical therapy which might be required.
