One of the great advantages to the valley is the prevalence of temperate weather all year round. That allows residents and tourists alike to engage in numerous outdoor activities throughout the year – like golfing, motorcycling, and bicycling.

But an incident earlier this month should remind everyone that outdoor recreation can sometimes have devastating consequences.

A man was taking a Sunday morning bicycle ride in Pahrump when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The 35-year old man was riding around 7am on Pahrump Valley Boulevard not far from Lake Executive View Golf Course when the auto-bicycle accident took place. The man later succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, and authorities are looking for information as to the driver’s whereabouts.

It’s unclear whether the bicyclist or the driver was at fault in this particular accident, but the fact that the driver fled the scene may indicate that he or she is to blame. If that is the case, then the family of the 35-year old man could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver. Such legal action could entitle the plaintiffs to receive reimbursement for burial expenses, compensation for wages the man would have earned had the fatal crash not occurred, and damages for loss of care or companionship and mental anguish.

It is important that all valley bicyclists and motorists share the road with each other and give each other plenty of room whenever possible. Doing so will help avoid further tragedies like these.
