What did you do on Super Bowl Sunday?

Did you go to a private party? Did you head for one of the valley’s plentiful sports bars or casinos? Or did you just stay home and watch the game by yourself? (Or maybe you didn’t watch the Super Bowl at all.)

Wherever you took in the big game, at least you had a chance to relax and enjoy an American pastime. One person didn’t even have the opportunity to do that.

That’s because this individual was a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver near the Strip. Early Sunday morning around 1:30am, the person was reportedly walking on the sidewalk that borders the westbound side of Sahara Avenue (across the street from the Circus Circus complex). Just east of Tam Drive (which parallels Industrial Road), the pedestrian reportedly either fell down or lay down in the street and was struck by a car, which subsequently fled the scene. The pedestrian died, and the car (believed to be a grey sedan from the early 2000s model year) has not yet been located.

Once again, this scenario illustrates the idiocy of leaving the scene of an auto-pedestrian accident. From the information provided by Metro Police, the pedestrian may have caused the accident by entering the roadway illegally. But since the car sped away from the incident site, it implies that the driver might be partially or wholly responsible for the accident. That could become relevant in any future wrongful death lawsuit which might be filed against the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle.
