Metro Police and other law enforcement agencies are always on the lookout for trends which may affect public safety. Recently, there have been a few auto-pedestrian accidents in the valley over a relatively short period of time. So Metro Police are urging caution and vigilance among motorists and pedestrians alike.

The latest auto-pedestrian accident happened Tuesday night at Las Vegas Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, just east of the Community College of Southern Nevada. Authorities say that a 55-year old woman and her male companion were trying to cross the street when she was struck by a car and killed. Neither of the two pedestrians was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident, and the 69-year old female driver has not been charged with any crime.

This incident took place one day after a 12-year old girl was struck and killed by a car in a Las Vegas neighborhood on Halloween night. Earlier last month, a nine-year old boy and his six-year old sister were injured after being hit by a car while they were in a crosswalk on their way to school. Later that same day, a six-year old girl was killed and two other young children (ages 5 and 6) were hurt while coming home from the park when a car struck them in a marked crosswalk.

Metro Police are telling drivers to be extra watchful for pedestrians at intersections or in crosswalks, especially at night. They’re also advising pedestrians to cross streets only at designated places and to be mindful of vehicles which may not see them.
