Recently, a 74-year-old man was hit by a car on Boudler Highway near Dalhart Street in east Las Vegas near the Great Basin Highway. According to police reports, the bike rider tried to turn left across traffic when a Hyundai Elantra that was in the right lane at the time struck the bike rider.
The bike rider was transported to Sunrise Trauma Center with critical injuries. The driver of the car, a 66-year-old Henderson resident was uninjured. The bicycle accident remains under investigation; but so far, the driver has not been charged with any crime.
Bike riders are permitted to ride on the shoulder of a highway (in fact, unless otherwise marked they are allowed in regular traffic lanes as well).
