We’ve discussed numerous incidents on this blog where pedestrians have been struck by vehicles and either suffered injuries or died. Many of these victims were walking in the roadway or crossing a street illegally at the time of the accident. But one auto-pedestrian accident which occurred over the weekend in Las Vegas claimed the life of a man who was just standing in his driveway.
On Sunday afternoon just before 2:45pm, a 46-year old man was standing in the driveway of the house where he lived on Hacienda Avenue just east of Pecos Road. A 58-year old man and a 68-year old woman were also there with him at a yard sale which was taking place on the property. A 1998 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck heading west crossed over into oncoming traffic and ran up into the driveway. All three people were struck by the pickup, with the 48-year old man dying at the scene and the other two victims sustaining mild to moderate injuries.
The 76-year old man driving the truck will likely held fully responsible for the auto-pedestrian accident. As a result, the surviving family members of the 46-year old man may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the pickup truck driver, and the 58-year old and 68-year old victims may also file personal injury lawsuits against the 76-year old. The pickup driver may be ordered to pay damages for medical expenses and pain and suffering to the plaintiffs in all three cases, as well as lost future wages which would have been earned by the 46-year old had he not been killed in the accident.
