A pedestrian decided to cross the street at Bonanza Road near H Street in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it across. A car traveling east bound hit the pedestrian as they stepped off the sidewalk, according to Fox5Vegas.com.
The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center and reportedly suffered serious injuries. The exact details of the crosswalk accident are still being investigated.
I’ve written about pedestrian crosswalk accident injuries before and it’s always frustrating reading about a new incident. Drivers must understand the level of foot traffic in and around Las Vegas is higher than most cities and they have a responsibility to be extremely vigilant when driving through an area with a crosswalk.
Roughly 64,000 people suffer injuries in crosswalk-related accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This number needs to go down. Far too many people are suffering life-altering injuries like spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injuries, and/or shattered bones in these types of accidents. We can do better.
