Avoid Drunk Driving

Las Vegas is one of the top cities in the entire world for entertainment. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports that more than 43 million people visit the city each year. Many come for casinos, parties, events, and other activities. Of course, as anyone familiar with the city knows, there is no shortage of alcohol in Las Vegas.

Whether you are local or a visitor, our legal team wants you to enjoy your time in this wonderful city. We do not want you to end up in a serious accident. If you have had too much to drink, please do not end up driving in Las Vegas. Be smart and be safe: there are other ways to get home in the city.

Drunk Driving Accidents are a Major Problem in Las Vegas

Unfortunately, there can be a downside to the city’s fun and joyous atmosphere. Drunk driving accidents take far too many innocent lives in Nevada. According to data collected by the Nevada Department of Transportation, approximately 80 people are killed in DUI accidents in the state each year. In addition, many hundreds more innocent people are severely injured in drunk driving crashes.

You should never get behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol. Drinking and driving is incredibly risky. You may find yourself under arrest, facing the loss of your driving privileges, stuck with enormous fines and increased insurance costs, and potentially in jail. Even worse, you could destroy your life or the life of another person in a major accident.

Understanding the Legal Limit in Nevada

In the state of Nevada, the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit varies based on a few different factors. For licensed drivers who are 21 years of age or older, the BAC limit is 0.08. For commercial drivers who are operating a commercial vehicle, the BAC limit is 0.04. For licensed drivers who are not yet 21 years of age, the BAC limit is 0.02.

How do you know what your current BAC level is if you have already had a couple of drinks? It is actually very difficult to tell without sophisticated equipment. Those online formulas that account for your weight, alcohol consumption, and the amount of time that has passed are subject to a huge margin of error. Please do not rely on those formulas. If you have had something to drink, do not drive. It is simply not worth the risk.

Find Another Way to Get Around

One of the advantages of Las Vegas being a major tourist hub is that there are many alternative transportation options available in the city. If you are going to be consuming alcohol, you should always plan ahead. Figure out how you are going to get from place to place, while you are sober.

Many people like to get around by taking a taxi cab. Beyond traditional taxi cabs, prominent ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft now operate across the city. Further, depending on where you are going, you may also be able to easily take the Las Vegas Monorail, a casino shuttle bus, or one of the casino’s private tram lines. There are many options available that will not require you to get into the driver’s seat. Use them.
